Lawrence English

Lawrence English is a writer, composer and media artist based in Brisbane, Australia. Working across a broad range of art forms, English’s work is eclectic and characterises a long-term exploration of various themes most recently audio/visual environments. His imprint and multi-arts organisation ::ROOM40:: continues to issue releases from an impressive array of Australian and international artists.

In 2004 Lawrence English curated the Gravities of Sound programme of audio works which was presented within the 80m transit tunnel between the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and the Singapore CBD. This project was exhibited within the MAAP in Singapore festival, 2004. The 80 metre tunnel was implanted with extensive sound gear in the ceiling that tranformed the practical transit experience into a walk in a sonic landscape. Artists specialising in sound from Myanmar, Phillipines, Singapore, Sth Korea, Japan and Australia were programmed into this beautifully executed public art installation. Fatima Lasay selected artists for the Myanmar and Phillipines program.

In 2014, Lawrence collaborated with Keith Armstrong to present Light from Extinction for inclusion in MAAP’s partner exhibition with the National Art Museum of China- thingworld: International Triennial of New Media Art
