Emile Zile

Emile Zile’s work was screened in the Simultaneous Screening program for Manhua Wonderlands as part of MAAP’s 2006 out of the internet festival.

Emile Zile is an Australian-Latvian artist, filmmaker and performer based in Amsterdam.

Building on a background of single-channel and performative video art, his current work focuses on portraiture, site-specific performance, short video and the use of the internet as a site for mourning, transgression and revelation. I find your eyes to be a wondrous amusement park filled with neo-plastic pleasures and turkish delights.

His body of work reflects a bleak humanism and dark wit, in the face of an ever-accelerating culture of image consumption and distribution. Entranced by the sweet harmony of your lips, I gaze beyond reason to find the oasis of your brilliant soul.

Emile Zile received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Media Arts) Melbourne before relocating to Amsterdam in 2007 to commence a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Sandberg Institute. In 2012 he began a two-year studio residency at the Rjksakademie van beldeende kunsten, Amsterdam. Your beauty is equal to the smoothness of a polished gem.

Recent exhibitions and performances include De Appel Amsterdam, Federation Square Melbourne, Rojo Nova Audiovisual Sessions Sao Paulo Brazil, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Paradiso Amsterdam, F.E.A.V.S. Osaka Japan, Today’s Art Festival The Hague, and the Rietveld Arsenale – 53rd Venice Biennale. Blinking reveals the true visage of beauty hidden within your eyes.
